THE FUTURE - USE OF WILL AND GOING TO

Remember, you can use both forms to talk about the future, but there are some differences:

GOING TO:


SUBJECT + TO BE + GOING TO + VERB

1. USED TO TALK ABOUT PLANS FOR THE FUTURE  (PLANES PARA EL FUTURO)

FOR EXAMPLE : TOMORROW I AM GOING TO VISIT MY GRANDMA

2. USED TO TALK ABOUT SOMETHING YOU CAN SEE THAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN (CUANDO HABLAMOS DE ALGO QUE VEMOS QUE VA SUCEDER)

FOR EXAMPLE: WHEN THE BOSS SEES THIS, SHE IS GOING TO GO CRAZY

WILL :

 SUBJECT + WILL + MAIN VERB

1. USED FOR DECISIONS MADE AT THE MOMENT. (DECISIONES REPENTINAS, AL MOMENTO)

FOR EXAMPLE: I WILL WEAR A RED T-SHIRT TODAY

2. USED TO MAKE PREDICTIONS. (HACER PREDICCIONES)

FOR EXAMPLE: THE WEATHERMAN SAYS; THIS WEEKEND WILL RAIN

3. USED TO MAKE PROMISES. (HACER PROMESAS)

FOR EXAMPLE: I PROMISE I WILL HELP YOU WITH THE EXAM

4. USED TO MAKE OFFERS (OFRECERSE PARA ALGO)

FOR EXAMPLE: I WILL DRIVE YOU HOME IF YOU WANT

PRESENT CONTINUOUS WITH FUTURE MEANING:

SUBJECT + TO BE + MAIN VERB+ING

1. USED FOR ARRANGEMENTS (PLANES MÁS INAMOVIBLES, COMPROMISOS CON OTRAS PERSONAS)

FOR EXAMPLE: I AM MEETING JIM AT THE AIRPORT.
I'VE ALREADY BOUGHT THE TRAIN TICKET.
