GRAMMAR UNIT 5 -2: COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS






COUNTABLE NOUNS:

Cosas que podemos contar usando números

Singular Plural
one dog two dogs
one horse two horses
one man two men
one idea two ideas
one shop two shops

Ejemplos
  • She has three dogs.
  • I own a house.
  • I would like two books please.
  • How many friends do you have?

UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS

Cosas que no podemos contar. Es decir, no podemos decir un agua, dos aguas, tres aguas, etc.
Examples:
  • tea
  • sugar
  • water
  • air
  • rice
  • knowledge
  • beauty
  • anger
  • fear
  • love
  • money
  • research
  • safety
  • evidence
QUANTIFIERS

No podemos usar a/an con los "uncountable nouns". Para expresar una cantidad de un nombre incontable, usamos palabras o expresiones como some, any, much, many, a lot of
Para preguntar por la cantidad de un nombre incontable utilizamos "How much?"

UNIT 4 GRAMMAR: COMPARATIVES AND SUPERLATIVES

1.- ADJECTIVES

Definition: an adjective is a word which qualifies nouns. Says something about a person, an object, an animal...

Examples of SHORT adjectives (1 SYLLABE): 
fast, busy, clean, dirty, long, slow,...

  • John is 1m80. He is tall. But Chris is 1m85. He is taller than John.
  • America is big. But Russia is bigger.

2.- COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVES


Use of Comparative Adjectives

We use comparative adjectives when talking about 2 things (not 3 or 10 or 1,000,000 things, only 2 things).
Often, the comparative adjective is followed by "than".
Look at these examples:
If we talk about the two planets Earth and Mars, we can compare them as shown in the table below:

3.- SUPERLATIVE ADJECTIVES


We use superlative adjectives when talking about one thing in a bigger group
Often, "the" follows the superlative adjective.

HUGO IS THE TALLEST IN THE CLASSROOM.

LUIS IS THE FASTEST IN THE FOOTBALL TEAM.

I have two challenges for you, depending on your age:

LISTENING AND WRITING: PENELOPE IN THE TREEHOUSE

1. Shout out your typical problems with your parents, brothers and sisters

3. In pairs, imagine you are Penelope. How wold you survive in the treehouse?

Write the next part of the story (10 minutes)

**Think about all the characters and the important sets (the house, the bedroom and the treehouse) and objects (the seeds, the present,...)

4.  Answer the questions:
