WRITING ACTIVITY UNIT 1: SIMPLE PAST

I want you to read this writing about a Jane's typical day of School

School starts at nine o’clock in the morning.
I usually go by bus, and I leave home at quarter past eight. We have four classes in the morning,
and then we have lunch at half past twelve. In the afternoon, we usually have three classes.
I study ten subjects. My favourite subjects are Spanish and French. I love languages! I don’t like
maths or science. I don’t mind P.E. We usually play basketball or hockey.
The teachers at my school are nice. My favourite teacher is Miss Smith. She teaches Spanish. Her
classroom is really nice. There’s a TV, and we sometimes watch Spanish films. There’s also a
stereo, and we often listen to Spanish conversations. But we hardly ever listen to pop music!
There’s a library at my school. We can read there, and we can also use the computers. After school,
I sometimes go to the library and surf the Internet for my homework. On Tuesday, I always go to
the music club. I enjoy playing the guitar.
Jane (aged 15)

I want you to do the same with a typical day at school WHEN YOU WERE AT 6TH GRADE

REMEMBER, you have to do all the writing in SIMPLE PAST. Because they were past events...

Good luck!

YOU CAN USE THIS LINK TO WRITE IT, So I can correct it to you as soon as I can

"TO BE" SPEAKING ACTIVITY: WHAT'S YOUR SECRET?

What’s your secret? is a pair work activity that truly involves the whole class. In this game, which is a play on investigative journalist, each student writes a secret down on a piece of paper, things like: “I play the clarinet.” or “I have a twin.” The papers are placed in a hat and each student draws one: that’s where the game begins.
What’s your secret? can either be played by allowing students to mill about the classroom freely or by setting up a speed dating scenario, where each pair has 1 minute to speak before rotating. Students may ask one another yes/no questions—they may not ask directly if what’s on the piece of paper is true about them or not.
Students then must guess to whom the secret they drew belongs.

Don’t trust national stereotypes, especially your own

British Stereotypes

Do you know what a stereotype is? Let's have a look at the wiki entry.

stereotype
ˈstɛrɪə(ʊ)tʌɪp,ˈstɪərɪə(ʊ)-/
noun
plural noun: stereotypes
  1. 1.
a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.

NOTE: Be careful: stereotypes can be misleading so you should not trust national stereotypes, especially your own ...

Anyway,
taking into account that we will be talking about wide generalisations, the purpose of this selection of stereotypes is just to have fun.

Writing activity: describe your holidays

Write an e-mail describing your holidays.
You are writing an e-mail to your aunt, who lives in London.
Introduce yourself and tell her all the interesting things you've done this summer, or explain your favourite day of this holiday season.

REMEMBER:
You have to use the simple past  or the past continuous to describe all the activities,
You have to introduce yourself and make a conclusion and a closing
It´s an informal e-mail, so you have to use the rules of this kind of letters. CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT INFORMAL E-MAILS WITH EXAMPLES

HERE IS AN EXAMPLE:

Hi Soraya,
I am your nephew Mario. How are you? I'm having a great time in Saldaña. Thanks for your last e-mail, we all miss you so much.
I could tell you all the things I've done in summer, but my favourite day was the one we went to the amusement park.
Last month we went to the amusent park “Magic Island”. It was something horrible! We arrived at Seville at 8.00 am and had breakfast in a restaurant. When we were sitting, the waiter came to our table, and said to us: Would you like the day menu? My mum said: Yes, please. When the waiter brought me the incredible delicious day menu, I realized that it wasn’t very delicious. In the plate it was only a mini toast with a worm inside and a glass of milk with a dead fly floating on it!When we finished our terrible small breakfast we arrived at Magic Island.Withing all the attractions, there was one called “Anaconda”, which consists of a sort of train riding over water and had a slope of approximately twenty-five metres. When we were going down the slope, I fell into the water and I had to swim to get out. That day had a really strange bad begining, but had an amazing fantastic end.

Well, that's all for now, I hope to hear from you soon.

Kisses,
Mario
